At Stutor, we believe that education is the driving force of our society. However, equal access to education is yet to exist and there is a continually growing educational wealth divide. Students from wealthier families tend to academically outperform their lower income counterparts. Stutor hopes to bridge this gap by connecting students across Ontario. Stutor is an online platform where students can provide or receive educational aid at no cost. We believe in students serving students.

In many schools, there is a large, and continually growing educational wealth divide, but is often overshadowed. Students who come from privileged families tend to academically outperform students with a lower income status. As this problem was presented before us, we, as students, felt that it was our duty to patch the issue. We have created an online platform where students can provide or receive educational aid at no cost. Students who wish to tutor are able to gain community hours, mandatory for high school graduation. Signing up for the application is easy as 1, 2, 3…. One can simply choose to register as a tutor or a student, then, personal information such as their name, school, grade and the subjects they wish to be tutored in, or tutor others, would be inputted. Once one’s profile is set up, looking for tutors or students is based on a distance radius, which can be adjusted for one's convenience. With the information gathered from a survey that our team conducted, we believe that our solution has a high chance of success and is feasible because there is a clear demand. In fact, over 64% of responders said they would greatly benefit from receiving free tutoring services. In the future, we hope to expand by partnering with the different school boards and adding more features. If the partnership proves to be successful, we will launch a greater venture to serve those in other provinces. Stutor is a free app thus, our consumers do not have to worry about the financial aspects of using the app. We believe it is important to focus on the impact of an invention on a community rather than possessing the objective mindset of gaining profit. As of currently, the team’s ambition at Stutor is to open a gateway of free academic aid to high school students. However, it is important to analyze and establish the demographics of people that will use our app as this information can be used to improve it. Based on a segmentation analysis, our focus is Ontario high-school students (grades 9-12) who are academically passionate.
