On average, Canadian youth spend 42 hours per week on screens and are considered as the least active among 38 developed countries in the world. Because of this, obesity rates among Canadian youth have tripled in the last 30 years. Hi, my name is Andrew Fei, and my solution is Exertime. Exertime is an app that can be installed on phones and computers while being paired with various fitness devices. It moderates screen time based on the users Heart Rate, Calories Burned, Steps Taken, Distance Traveled, and Time Exercised. Then users can submit their exercise time, in exchange for screen time. Exertime will keep the user’s devices under lockdown, excluding emergency functions, until they submit their exercise time. When they submit their exercise time, their devices will open, allowing them to use their screens for the time they earned exercising. Exertime will be available online, allowing for a broader target market. People around the world will be able to download my app and reap its benefits through activity. My revenue stream will be through a modest fee for purchasing the app, along with marketing referrals, and contract fees. As our app becomes more popular we will market it for free, along with other sports and athletic companies sponsoring us. Promotion will be done through social media accounts, such as Instagram and Facebook to target both child and adult audiences. It will also be done through word of mouth advertising. Once, our business becomes popular we will make television ads showcasing our product. I am always arguing with my parents about screen time, and they keep saying that I should be outside and more active. We came to a compromise, that I would be on my screen in proportion to the time that I had exercised for, (while completing daily workouts). However, there was no way to check if I was following through. That is where the idea for Exertime emerged. My business will be successful because it is marketed to the parents who want an easy way to get their kids active. The growth of my business is guaranteed, as parents spread the word about this app they have for their kids. If you want to support Exertime, help me by voting, and follow me on Social Media.
